Canberra Day celebrations at Commonwealth Park were a cracker for families who enjoyed endless rides, games and an afternoon lazing on the lawn in listening to live acts.

It was a day to reminisce for Sharleen McGurk who grew up in the ACT and was giving her partner and sons the 'how to' guide to the capital's event.
"I was born and bred here but I left 20 years ago," she said. "We moved back in December so this is our first Canberra Day as a family."
After taking in the Trolls Show and Shaun the Sheep her husband Sean and boys Connor, 3, and Aidan,5, were having a blast on the rides.
Armed with a $20 all you can ride wristband made it easy to scoot around and try them all but for Aidan the winner was the big slide.
"I was really fun," Aidan giggled as he gathered up a hession sack as he was. "We were having a race and Dad pushed me and Dad and Connor couldn't win."
Four-year-old Thomas Collett, of Watson, was one of the many suiting up in velcro for Stick Up an inflatable jumping castle where kids launch themselves at the wall behind in an attempt to stick.
"It was a little scary but fun," he said. "The second time when I was nearly finished I was about to fall off."
The Gillett siblings Lachlan,3, and Amelia,4, were besotted with their glittery face-paint.
"I got a unicorn and Lachie got a green, blue and black Batman," Amelia said.
There were cats, superman, rainbow fairy and spiderman designs on show Batman was the most requested according to staff at the end of the long queues.
Canberra indie-pop band String Elephants had families up on their feet dancing around their picnic rugs as the live acts shifted from kids entertainment in the early afternoon.
The group performed their catchy debut track Fluorescent, which reached number two on the Triple J unearthed charts in 2016, along with a mix of popular covers.
Food vendors became busy as people snared prime real estate in front of the stage in the early evening as Jesus and the Jean Teasers and then Havana Brown performed.
