Thrifty and thirsty punters need look no further to find the best value beers in the ACT.
It was thirsty work but The Canberra Times sampled more than 20 pubs and clubs to find you the cheapest tipples in town.
The criteria were simple: How much did a schooner of full strength beer cost on any given day outside of happy hour.
Patrons of the Hellenic Club in Woden will hardly be surprised to hear it had the region's cheapest schooners, pouring Carlton Draught and Victoria Bitter for a measly $4.90.
There was a catch, however, with membership required before cashing in (between $5 and $10 a year).
Hot on its heels was the City Labor Club, which offered schooners for $5, followed by the Dickson Tradies at $5.10.
The Canberra Southern Cross Club ($5.20), the RUC ($5.40) and the Vikings and Raiders clubs (both $5.50) all offered great bang for your buck.
Those not bothered with membership fees can enjoy a beer at the Wood Duck Inn for just $5.50, although they will need to travel about 20km out of the city to Hall.
The same bargain price can also be found in at the Kambah Inn, the Chisholm Tavern and the Valley Tavern in Wanniassa.
Those willing to splash a little bit on petrol could find cheap drinks across the border in NSW.
Walsh's Hotel in Queanbeyan offered a $5.60 schooner, while the Jerrabomberra Hotel just down the road did the same.
Back in the Canberra city centre it was hard work finding a schooner in the trendy bars and pubs that cost less than $7.
The massive Uni Pub on London Circuit was one of the cheapest inner city bars, pouring James Boags for $6.40.
The Durham Castle Arms in Kingston and the Canberra Club in Barton were close behind, both offering Carlton Draught for $6.50.
The popular Hopscotch bar charged $7.50 for a schooner of Coopers Pale Ale while thriving music venue Honkytonks charged $7 for Victoria Bitter.
While the inner city bars were unsurprisingly the most expensive, many emphasised their focus on tasty food and entertainment, rather than cheap beer, as a way to pull in punters.
