A spate of dangerous driving has resulted in police issuing an alarming number of tickets since the start of January.

ACT Policing have issued 480 traffic infringement notices and cautions since January 1, saying there could be disastrous consequences if the trend continued.
One of the worst examples was a driver caught doing 178km/h in an 80km/h zone on Belconnen Way, Macquarie. In other cases, one driver was doing 151km/h in a 90km/h zone and another did 126km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Station Sergeant Ken Hedges said the number of drivers caught breaking the law over just 11 days was "beyond comprehension".
"These high range speeders were all local Canberra drivers putting themselves and members of their own community at risk," he said.
"This type of behaviour is reckless as it can have such disastrous consequences."
He implored drivers to think of their loved ones before they took dangerous risks behind the wheel.
"Think of your own friends and family and how you feel about putting them at risk."
Other offences ACT Police have issued notices for in the new year included illegal U-turns, negligent driving and driving with an unrestrained child younger than four years old.
