Police charged a disqualified learner driver on Tuesday afternoon after the 20-year-old woman led them on a chase along the Hume Highway near Tumbalong, reaching speeds of 170km/h.

NSW police alleged the driver's white Nissan Pulsar, with red P-plates attached, sped past them at 188km/h and failed to stop when police activated their lights and sirens.

They pursued the car for 30 kms, while she travelled at speeds between 140km/h and 170km/h with four other passengers in the car.
When the car left the Hume Highway at the Muttama Road exit, she struggled to negotiate a left hand bend and went into a grass embankment, before stopping in a paddock near Gundagai.
All five of the cars occupants were detained and police said the car's registration had expired in November 2016. The woman held a NSW learners license disqualified until March 2017.
She was charged with numerous driving offences at Wagga Wagga Police Station, refused bail and was expected to face court on Wednesday.
