A 13-year-old girl was driving, with her father sitting beside her, when her car and a cyclist crashed into each other on Saturday, police say.

Police said the 24-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
"About 3pm, a black Holden Commodore turning right at the intersection of Cowper Street and Dickson Place, Dickson, collided with a cyclist travelling straight through the intersection in the opposite direction," police said in a statement.
Police arrived and found out the girl had been driving.
"The sole passenger in the vehicle was identified as the girl's father, a 50-year-old man from Canberra's north," police said.
Community and Safety Superintendent Rob Wilson said police were trying to work out what happened.
"Police will be investigating this incident to understand how a 13-year-old girl came to be driving a car with her father beside her," he said.
"The road rules are in place to minimise injury and death on our roads - no one is safe to drive before they have gone through the appropriate road ready training. The responsibility of road safety is too great a burden to sit on the shoulders of a 13-year-old girl."
