1 Bust your buffers: Celebrate the opening of the light rail with a dash of sarcasm at Reload Bar Games on Northbourne Avenue at the Fat Controller's Birthday Party. They'll be banging out the Thomas remixes and designing special drinks for the night so you can happily ride the light rail home. There'll be special drink prices for MyWay card holders and for anyone whose name matches any of the engines in Thomas the Tank Engine episodes, or for anyone who comes dressed as a train. 2 Egg hunt: Hop along this Easter for an egg-citing adventure that will take you on a journey through iconic Old Parliament House with the annual Great Easter Egg Trail at the Museum of Australian Democracy. Choose one of four new trails and explore the exhibitions and heritage spaces as you follow the clues. A yummy chocolate prize awaits. Bookings essential, from 8am, April 21.
3 Folk Festival: Now in its 53rd year, the "National" will run over five days, from April 18-22. Close to 200 acts, including 14 international acts, will perform more than 750 shows throughout 20 venues. There will also be a children's festival, themed bars, food and market stalls, roving entertainment and an engaging arts program including craft and dance and art.
4 Movie premiere: Legendary Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta was the first black dancer to perform some of the most famous ballet roles. Learn more of his story through the film Yuli, screening at Palace Electric on April 20. Starring the dancer himself, Acosta is a magnetic force whose charisma and astonishing talent leaps off the screen. Presented by the Embassy of Cuba in Australia, the film will be preceded by Cuban delicacies, mojitos and a dance performance.
5 Peter Helliar: There comes a time in every man's life when he must put on his big boy pants and get on with it, and getting a vasectomy is a pretty good place to start. Comedian Peter Helliar overshares in his best show yet. Helliar's always been that somewhat goofy, likeable, homely (without that being an insult) kind of comedian. Part of the 2019 Speigeltent program which wraps up this weekend. At the Canberra Theatre April 2.
