Mr Carville's body was found in grassland in Majura late last week, and police quickly deemed his death to be suspicious.
He had been missing since November 4, and was found during a line search of bushland, prompted by a tip-off to police.
The homicide squad is continuing to investigate the death and is awaiting the results of an autopsy, which will better establish the exact cause of death, and determine how long Mr Carville's body had been at the scene.
It was not how long those results would take, but police said on Sunday it could be "a number of weeks".
An ACT Policing spokeswoman also said investigators had "ruled out" family members as persons of interest, and were following a number of other lines of inquiry.
Details about injuries and any preliminary indications of a cause of death are still being kept under wraps.
Mr Carville's body was removed from bushland late last week. It was understood to have been found on defence land in Majura, although that is yet to be confirmed by police.
Detectives believe the death was closely linked to a vehicle found dumped in Molonglo Gorge earlier this month.
Police appealed to the public for information about the Toyota Landcruiser on Tuesday after it was found on the previous Saturday, with extensive damage from a crash in heavy scrub.
Mr Carville's death is the fifth killing in the ACT this year.
The four earlier deaths were all family violence-related.
Audrey Carville, Mr Carville's mother, told Fairfax Media of her shock as the family struggled to cope with the news last week.
"We just can't bring our minds around it," she said on Friday.
"I keep saying I hope it isn't him but they're pretty certain it is."
Mrs Carville said detectives had told her they thought the body was her 52-year-old son as his clothes appeared to match a description given to police.
It is understood that the ex-partner of Mr Carville's brother, Adrian, was the last to see him alive at his Evatt home at 9.30pm on November 4.
Family members described Mr Carville as a man dedicated to family life, and someone who put others before himself.
