The Prime Minister may have thanked the ABC for The Killing Season but he and his parliamentarian colleagues slayed fashion at this year's Midwinter Ball.

For the first time in the fundraising event's 16-year history there was minimal fashion victim carnage. Everyone was age appropriate, no skirts were spewing with tulle and tuxedos were tailored. Marriage equality notwithstanding, at least there appears to be bipartisan support for style.
However Margie Abbott and Chloe Bryce, wife of Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, made an unfortunate fashion faux pas with both wearing similar black asymmetric one-shoulder constructions.
Mrs Abbott opted for a long-sleeve and warmer jersey fabric, while Ms Bryce donned raw silk, ruched at the shoulder, and broke up her look with a hot pink fur stole and box clutch.
Monochrome was the key trend of the evening, however Julie Bishop and Peta Credlin were on Team Texture. Ms Bishop, accompanied by her partner property developer David Panton, shimmered in jewel-encrusted silver. Her elegant fishtail train was what Rihanna should have opted for at this year's Met Gala.
Credlin ditched her beloved leopard print and wore black but managed to look fresh and fabulous in her form-fitting halter gown. Her dazzling smile, which, let's be honest, has been MIA since September 8, 2013, shone brighter than the sequins scattered over her dress.
Bronwyn Bishop and her trademark bouffant and brooch combo were there, surprisingly sitting on the fence as the Speaker wore a black and white striped gown.
Despite having the most popular auction item, Hugh Jackman wasn't in attendance, much to the disappointment of Midwinter Ball debutante Jacqui Lambie. The senator from Tasmania, wearing a busy ivory number, was accompanied by her son Brentyn Milverton instead.
