There have been a few golden perch, an occasional small Murray cod, but redfin are going gangbusters on soft plastics and hard-bodied spinning blade lures.
It's up to the fifth week of the eight-week Canberra Cup tournament in Burley Griffin and this could be the week to land the big golden perch, redfin or cod. The water is clear enough for good lure fishing, the barometric pressure is high and the fish should be hungry.

There have been good reports of golden perch and smallish cod throughout Wyangala Reservoir this week, with an occasional bonus catfish, silver perch or protected Macquarie perch.
Canberra angler Barry Blight and a colleague fished the shoreline at Grabine for an excellent session with scrub worms, landing a 35cm silver perch, lots of golden perch and several smallish cod.
Rainbow return
Rainbows are returning in good numbers in Eucumbene and Jindabyne. They have been virtually non-existent for several seasons because of failed stockings but the latest seemed to have worked well and fish are mostly over 30cm. Some from earlier stockings, now weighing 1.8kg, have also shown up during recent mudeye hatches.
They have been taken mostly on Power Bait and scrub worms fished from the shore and on trolled Tasmanian Devils, blades and small minnow patterns on flatline and lead core line. Fly fishers have fared best using dark nymphs, dark beetles and especially mudeye patterns just after dark. Best locations have been Yens Bay and Seven Gates at Eucumbene and Hatchery Bay and Hayshed Bay in Jindabyne.
Some nice browns to about 2.2kg also have been taken on the same baits, lures and flies. Best fishing has been with slow-trolled lead core line in deep water, especially around Braemar and Cemetery Point in Eucumbene and Kalkite and the Snowy Arm at Jindabyne. Night fly fishing using mudeye patterns has been especially productive, with several fish around 3kg caught in Yens Bay.
Good fishing on coast
Good weather at the coast has generally meant good fishing. Offshore there have been plenty of flathead in 30-50m over the sand and gravel patches and snapper on the reefs in the early morning.
Game fishers are still having a good run with striped, black and blue marlin, mostly using live baits or lures and switch baiting. Smaller prizes in the same areas beyond the 70-fathom line include mahi mahi, school yellowfin, albacore, frigate mackerel and striped tuna.
Estuary anglers report plenty of smallish flathead and an occasional mulloway on soft plastics and bait, with the best fishing in St Georges Basin, the Clyde River and Lake Tuross.
