It is the first of its kind in Canberra and caters to children of all physical ability levels.
Chief Minister Katy Gallagher opened the playground, acknowledging the community and corporate support which had made it happen.
"It started out as a project led by a group of public servants but soon galvanised people in the construction industry, professionals and families," she said.
Grassroots and workplace fundraising reached about $450,000 for the project and pro bono and in-kind support from the construction industry added up to more than $850,000.
The playground is on land provided by the National Capital Authority close to the Carillon in King's Park on the shore of Lake Burley Griffin.
The ACT government has contributed through a Centenary of Canberra grant and will continue to give financial assistance.
