Canberra's altruistic school students have been recognised for good deeds ranging from drought aid and wildlife care to making breakfast for their classmates.

One hundred students from 30 primary schools received the annual Fred Hollows Schools Award on Friday, which recognises community service work undertaken this year. The awards are named after the late eye surgeon and former Australian of the Year.
Radford College year five student James Anderson-Bowell was recognised for his efforts raising money for drought-affected NSW farmers, while St Thomas the Apostle Primary School's Amelia Jackman was nominated for caring for sick and injured wildlife.
Two students from Duffy Primary School, Jorja Drady and Mitchell Dunn, also received awards.
Jorja was nominated for spending her mornings serving healthy breakfasts to disadvantaged schoolmates and other members of the community.
"It makes me very happy to help other people by serving them breakfast every morning," she said.
Mitchell gives up his lunchtimes to volunteer at the Duffy Primary Autism Unit (Griffin Unit).
"All students are unique and special in their own way, that's why I want to raise awareness about autism," he said.
Co-founder of the Fred Hollows Foundation, Gabi Hollows, said that the "ideas and endless energy that young people encompass continue to inspire me."
"Fred would have been incredibly proud that the foundation has inspired young students to dream big and help others."
The Fred Hollows Schools Award presentation ceremony was held at the Hedley Beare Centre for Education and Learning in Stirling on Friday.
