1. Not for the faint-hearted
If you want to add a dash of adrenaline to your weekend (and don't mind risking wetting your pants in the process) then the Dark Lake Reborn horror experience might be for you. The experience is basically a haunted house cross with an escape room, where actors guide small groups through an immersive performance and participants are asked to solve puzzles. Just to add an extra element of mystery about it, the event is at a secret location near O'Connor, and participants will only get location details upon ticket purchase. Thursday-Saturday, sessions from 7.45-11.05pm. Tickets are $49.90 from huntedexperience.com
2. A good yarn
The winter chill is here, and we all know it's only going to get colder before it heats up. I don't know about you, but when it comes to keeping warm I reach for those cosy woollen knits. So why not expand your woollen collection while seeing the producers which help create them? The Canberra Wool Expo will feature alpaca, sheep and goat wool products, and there will also be various workshops to help you create your own woollen masterpiece. Old Bus Depot Markets. Saturday and Sunday, 10am-4pm. Entry is free but there are ticketed events. obdm.com.au
3. Jungle fever
There's something to be said about bringing the outdoors in. Not only do potted plants add some style to a room, but they also improve air quality and create a calm atmosphere. But who says shopping for pot plants need be just as calming? The Jungle Collective returns to Canberra this weekend with their Low Light Party. Shop some of the warehouse sale's low light plants - perfect for the darker winter days - while listening to some jungle tunes. The Fitters Workshop. Saturday-Sunday, 8am-4pm. Tickets are free from eventbrite.com.au
4. Every dog has its day
Spend the day with man's best friend all while helping a worthy cause. The RSPCA's Million Paws Walk will see hundreds take to Patrick White Lawns and take in the views of Lake Burley Griffin with the most lovable member of your family, your dog. The day will include entertainment, stalls, food and giveaways. Funds go towards the care of the 250,000 animals which come through the RSPCA's doors each year. Entry is $10.80-$58.50 from millionpawswalk.com.au
5. Embrace the weird
The costumes, the voting surprises, the gimmicks; there's really nothing quite like the unapologetically strange Eurovision. And such a wonderful weirdness really deserves to be marked with friends. Avoid the results from the 5am live broadcast on Sunday, and head to Hopscotch's viewing party at the more sensible time of 7.30pm. Sing-alongs and costumes are welcome, if not encouraged. Free.
