The burn will be managed by the NSW Rural Fire Service and the National Parks and Wildlife Service and be based at Little Bombay, located 15 kilometres northwest of Braidwood and 30 kilometres east of Queanbeyan.
Authorities advise that the fire will pose a low risk to surrounding properties and are asking for non-fire fighting personnel to stay clear of the area while the fire is burning.
Parts of the Bombay, Paleran and Mulloon Fire trails will be closed while the fire operation continues.
The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage advise that smoke haze will impact the surrounding area and are asking that motorists drive to conditions in their area.
Smoke was visible on the hills of the state forest on Thursday morning and a visible haze is expected to be seen for the remainder of the week.
