THE Australian Opals women's basketball team has dismissed claims of gender inequality, but the New Zealand men's team has used social media to complain about Basketball Australia's hospitality and perceived ''cheap ass'' accommodation in Canberra.

Basketball Australia funded accommodation for New Zealand's men's and women's teams before Sunday's Oceania championship clash at Canberra's AIS Arena, placing both teams in the Quality Hotel, Dickson.
Meanwhile, Australian men's team the Boomers have been staying at the Novotel and the Australian women's team is based at the AIS campus residence.
Basketball New Zealand arranged accommodation for the Australian teams in Auckland for the opening games of the series on Wednesday, and all squads stayed in the same hotel.
The hospitality was obviously a sore point for New Zealand Tall Blacks guard Corey Webster and physio Anousith Bouaaphone, who took to Twitter on Saturday.
Webster tweeted: ''@BasketballAus showing their class … BBNZ puts them in the same (nice) hotel as us in NZ [for game on in Auckland on Wednesday]. But in OZ we get put up in a cheap ass hotel.''
Bouaaphone posted: ''Great hospitality shown by @BasketballAus to Tall Blacks and Tall Ferns. Put us in a cheap hotel while they are in Novotel.''
Basketball New Zealand chief executive Ian Potter was surprised when told the Boomers were staying at a different hotel.
''When the Australian teams are here, we make all those decisions about where they stay and the menu, etc,'' he said.
''We had everyone in the same facility of good quality, not five star because we can't afford it.
''I just assumed it is what you do, you just put everyone in the same place.''
Basketball Australia said there were not enough vacancies to accommodate all teams in one venue, highlighting that NRL team the Canterbury Bulldogs was also in the capital to play the Raiders.
''The Novotel was unavailable to accommodate all of these teams this weekend as the Canterbury Bulldogs are also in town,'' a BA spokeswoman said.
''Given the unavailability of the Novotel, Tradies was selected as it meets all of the hotel requirements in terms of room and bed size.
''Tradies is a Basketball ACT preferred hotel, which is also frequently used by other national sporting bodies and professional leagues in Australia.''
There were claims of gender inequity within Australian Basketball before the London Olympics, when the Boomers flew to London business class and the Opals travelled economy.
While the Opals are staying at the AIS campus residence, co-captain Jenni Screen insisted the decision to stay there was made by the team.
''We got approached and asked what we wanted to do. It was a collective decision by the team,'' Screen said.
''It was a convenience thing, we have access 24-7 to what we needed and a lot of us have come through the AIS.
''We love training and playing here, and it's also about giving back to a place which has been so good to us.''
