Such was the pressure that the water plume extended around 15 metres into the air.
Emergency crews from Icon Water were on site and assessing the damage around 6.40pm. The repair was expected to take several hours.
The reason for the burst main is unknown but comes at a time when Icon Water is working on renewal program for sections of its 3300kms of mains water pipes across the ACT.
Some of the oldest mains pipes in the ACT date back to 1915.
