Robert Tym announced in a public notice placed in The Canberra Times that his practice would close permanently on October 14 and that patients could request summaries or copies of their medical records.
The Medical Board of Australia is taking action in the ACAT against DrTym, alleging that the psychiatrist's methods raise ''a significant issue of public safety''.
Dr Tym referred a call from The Canberra Times yesterday to his medical indemnity insurer, Avant.
An Avant spokeswoman said she had no information on the closure of the practice but Dr Tym's case was next due for mention in the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal on October 19.
