Todd Brendan Kirby, 30, was already on bail for serious offences when police say he committed fresh offences in Waramanga on Tuesday.
Kirby unsuccessfully tried for bail in the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday as the prosecution argued the risk of Kirby committing further offences was too great.
The defendant has been charged with two burglaries, two related thefts and possessing an article with intent to use in a burglary.
The man's lawyer argued on his client's behalf that Kirby would lose his government job if he locked up on remand. But Kirby is awaiting sentence in the ACT Supreme Court and, under the territory's bail laws, must demonstrate special or exceptional circumstances before getting bail.
Police say neighbours spotted the accused man riding a bicycle away from one of the houses, wearing a backpack, on Tuesday afternoon.
Magistrate Peter Dingwall formally refused the man bail.
