James Stanley Kelly, 48, pleaded not guilty to three counts of committing acts of indecency on a child and one charge of committing an act of indecency in the presence of a child.
He is accused of molesting two 13-year-old girls between February and October.
The court heard Kelly already had matters before the court, including a charge of assaulting his wife.
Kelly's lawyer said his client cared for his four children, one of whom suffered epilepsy, and could lose his job and public housing property if he was jailed.
He also said the prosecution case against Kelly was "not overwhelming".
The prosecution argued that there were no special or exceptional circumstances that warranted granting Kelly bail.
Magistrate Beth Campbell remanded the man in custody until November.
