Brent Peter Smith-Roberts, 19, was arrested at 4.30am yesterday after police chased him through the Canberra suburb of Fyshwick.
The teenager appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon.
The court heard Smith-Roberts had a string of other criminal matters before the courts and had a lengthy record.
Police allege that he had a bag containing the drug methylamphetamine, also known as ice, and a 9mm pistol.
He was charged with drug trafficking, possessing an offensive weapon and drug possession.
Smith-Roberts did not enter pleas to the charges.
The teenager was already on bail for other alleged offences, including an aggravated robbery, when he was picked up yesterday morning.
Smith-Roberts, who represented himself in court, did not apply for bail.
The man told the court he had held a steady job and wanted to go back to it.
He also asked if he could have his charges dealt with by Magistrate Peter Dingwall, the magistrate in charge of hearing his other court matters.
Magistrate Beth Campbell remanded Smith-Roberts in custody. She adjourned the matter to Monday when a bail application will be heard.
