About four fights occurred during the Melbourne Cup festivities, according to police, most of which involved younger patrons.
No arrests were made but police and security staff ejected three groups for misbehavior.
Sergeant Steve Hogarth said police had been generally impressed with the crowd behaviour.
He said most of the fights had been minor and had ended quickly, without the need for police to intervene.
''We're very pleased with the results from the community,'' Sergeant Hogarth said.
''Everyone's been really well behaved, it's been a good crowd.
''Just [a few] minor scuffles between patrons, it didn't even need police intervention at all, it was just sorted out amongst the boys and they were ejected from the place.''
A heavy police presence of about 35 officers, including the alcohol crime targeting team and specialist response and security members, had helped to control the crowd.
Traffic operations were also out in force, with random breath test stations set up to block all exits out of Thoroughbred Park. Thousands of tests has been conducted by 5.30pm, but none had returned a positive result. The RBT stations had caused traffic gridlock.
