ACT Police said the woman had been walking toward the Waramanga shops along a bike path next to Nemarang Crescent when a man rode up behind her on a bicycle about 6.30am.
"The man grabbed the woman's handbag causing her to fall to the ground and continued to ride off with the handbag towards the ovals behind the Waramanga shops," police said in a statement.
She received minor injuries in the robbery, and lost cash and other personal belongings in her purse.
Police said the man was in his 20s, with a thin build and of average height. He had dark skin and short dark hair. He was wearing a dark-coloured baseball cap with a large peak, black shirt with green writing on the sleeve and dark-coloured pants.
They ask anyone who might have witnessed the robbery or seen this man to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through its website.
