ACT Fire and Rescue Commander Ron Weston warned yesterday that Christmas lights enthusiasts should be careful in the wet weather.
While there haven't been reports of any problems with Christmas lights over the past few days, Mr Weston said people needed to use common sense when placing Christmas lights on their homes.
''Don't put them next to or close to anything that is easily flammable like curtains or dry trees,'' Mr Weston said. ''When people put their extension leads out they have to be very careful with those because that's the major risk in wet weather. To minimise the risk to the household turn your lights off when you go to bed.''
