The officer had seen the pregnant woman and a man, both aged in their 20s, acting strangely in the menswear section of a Woden store about 5.30pm.
As the couple went to leave the store, the security officer approached them after noticing security tags from clothing in their trolley had been removed.
The man allegedly fled to the car park with the trolley while the woman took another route and reappeared to ''block the officer's path'', according to police.
The woman then allegedly ripped off the officer's lanyard, scratched his chest and arms, and bit his left arm. The officer called police, who found two people matching the descriptions on Port Jackson Circuit, Phillip.
They were found with a blue T-shirt and grey tracksuit pants.
Police will summons them to court at a later date.
