Thirty years ago the BBC groomed their heavyweight presenters to commentate Prince Charles and Diana's wedding and as of 6pm tonight reality TV stars, sports commentators and music journalists will be putting their unique and fresh spin one of the UK's most important occasions.

More than 8000 journalists, 60 live camera feeds and countless radio programs from around the world will broadcast from London tonight with everyone from Barbara Walters to Dame Edna brushing up on their royal trivia and pronunciation.
The marriage of William and Kate may mark a new era for the royals but it also marks the changing landscape of the media industry.
The BBC created controversy earlier in the year for announcing they were taking a fresh approach for their line up of presenters and commentators for the big day by dropping the official voice-of-state occasions for decades, news anchor David Dimbely, and replacing his venerable tones with popular radio DJ Fearne Cotton, reality TV talent show winner Chris Hollins and Formula One expert Jake Humphrey who were mere Tweens when Princess Di walked down the aisle.
All three of the new presenters are prominent in the world of social media with their own Facebook pages and blogs.
A search on Twitter for David Dimbleby yielded no results.
The presenting line up was a shock move made by the higher powers at the BBC as news anchor, Dimbleby’s credentials included commentating Princess Diana’s funeral, anchoring the coverage of the Queen Mother’s funeral and presenting Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
These changes to a more laid back media landscape are also happening in our own backyard.
While Dame Edna takes a front row seat in the Channel 9 commentary box, larrikin Nova presenters Fitzy and Wippa will be holding court for Channel 10.
"We're very flattered to be given the job to commentate but I think everyone is going to take a very traditional approach, we're just there to offer a different approach, we’re just a couple of Aussie battlers who’ll be calling it the way we see it,' Fitzy said.
"It'll be similar to calling a footy match but it’ll be a lot slower and there won’t be as much scoring, the only scoring will be later on tonight," he added.
Network executives were hoping to capitalise on William and Kate’s popularity with Gen Y so while Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton bring some cheekiness to the ceremony expect the new era of commentators to bring some fresh air to the traditionally stuffy affair as they call the wedding of the decade.
