Since opening its first location in Bondi in 2016, Milky Lane has become synonymous with the extravagant edibles that Instagram influencers travel miles to photograph.
With over-the-top desserts, cocktails and burgers, all set to a backdrop of hip-hop and graffiti, Milky Lane is set to shake things up. There'll also be regular live music late into the night.
Featuring mind-blowing burgers, loaded fries, and desserts where you can deep-fry a Magnum or a Gaytime and coat it with crushed biscuits and Cornflakes and drizzled it with maple syrup and Nutella, the menu will be, well, deeply satisfying.
Director Christian Avant said Canberra was always on their list of cities.
"There's always been an insatiable appetite from Canberrans for us to open a restaurant there, which we've been closely tracking since the day we opened our first store," he said.
"We had originally planned to open in Canberra back in 2018 but the one thing that held us back, as is often the case, was finding the perfect site."
While he won't give the actual address away - "it's very close to Sonoma and Messina, which gives you an idea of which end we're at" - we're guessing it might take over the space where Catch Fish and Chips was on the corner of Lonsdale and Elouera Streets. Catch closed its doors on June 23.
Avant said Braddon was the perfect fit for Milky Lane.
"Every time we've been back to look for the right site, we've noticed how vibrant and alive the scene is in Braddon and we love the energy that Lonsdale Street brings when the sun goes down."
The site will feature a mix of indoor and outdoor seating for about 200 people, over two levels. They are flying in some of the world's best graffiti artists to create the artwork that adorns the walls of their restaurants.
Avant said it was all about creating "destination dining" but in a casual setting.
"We're fun, we're over the top and most of all, we're exciting, from the second you arrive until the moment you leave," he said.
"We like to create a memorable experience, for all the right reasons."
With more than 111,000 followers on Instagram, social media plays a big part in the Milky Lane model.
It might be time to recharge the phone and get the fat pants out ready for the first visit in September.
