All things Potter
But how well do you know Harry, Hermione and Ron really? That's the question you'll have to ask yourself if you choose to participate in the Harry Potter-themed trivia night at the Durham on Saturday Night. Like, do you know the difference between Protego Totalum and Petricicus Totalus? How about the locations of Castleobruxo and Durmstrang? Are these things anyone should know at all? If you think your Potter knowledge exceeds that of most other Muggles, head over to the Durham Castle Arms in Kingston and play on. From 7.00pm. Tickets $10 at eventbrite.
Tequila Day
Ah, tequila - it's one of those drink that, once partaken of, either haunts you to the end of your drinking days, or becomes instantly synonymous with party time. Here's hoping it's the latter, because World Tequila Day falls this week, and the Old Canberra Inn is getting into the spirit this weekend. There'll be tequila cocktail specials and live music by Latin Ska Reggae eight-piece Los Chavos from noon on Saturday, and lasting all afternoon. Ariba! Festivities kick off 12.00pm on Saturday and run until 5.00pm. It's free, but register at eventbrite.
Be like the Bard
Like Shakespeare but have never quite managed to get it? Want to impress someone, follow one of his plays, perform his works, recite a sonnet, or just understand what all the fuss has been about for the past 400-odd years? Local outfit Lakespeare & Company is running another of its verse introduction workshops this weekend, for all those who are interested in Shakespeare but have limited performance understanding of the verse structure. This one is just "a short introduction to iambic pentameter", something all of us need in this day and age. Saturday, 10.00-2.00pm, Communities@Work, Tuggeranong Community Centre. Tickets at eventbrite.
Fancy arvo tea
If you're going to do a pricey mid-winter High Tea, why not make it one that's "serene, methodical and exceptionally Monster" - at Monster Kitchen and Bar? Alongside the classic high tea fare, the various ensembles include exclusive flavours from Tea Garden Co, tea-inspired cocktails (but of course), and champagne. Fancy as. From 1.00pm on Sunday. Tickets at eventbrite.
Eat like Monet
And, because we have to lap up as much Monet as possible before the master leaves Canberra in September (Monet: Impression Sunrise finishes at the National Gallery of Australia on September 1), head over to First Edition on Northbourne Avenue, where they're serving up a three-course farm-to-table dinner akin to the one the great master loved in rural northern France in the early 1900s. And, naturally, a Giverny cocktail. Visit firsteditioncanberra.com.au for details.
