The Owls were trying to make contact with David Pocock on Tuesday to find out whether the superstar flanker would be available for an elimination final against Gungahlin on Sunday.
The club was also hoping prop Allan Alaalatoa and fullback Tom Banks would make cameo appearances in the Wallabies' bye week to press their claims for World Cup selection.
Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said Pocock was edging closer to a return from a rare calf injury, which prematurely ended his ACT Brumbies career and limited him to just three games this year.
But the Wallabies are reluctant to rush Pocock's comeback, taking a long-term approach to target the World Cup campaign in Japan.
There was talk Pocock would make a return via club rugby in Sydney to get game time before the Bledisloe Cup in Perth next weekend.
The Owls, however, want Pocock to be parachuted into their side for the start of Canberra's premier division finals given he has been aligned with the club for the past seven years.
Wallabies and Brumbies duties have previously prevented Pocock from playing for the Owls, but he is eligible to play in the finals as per regulations for Super Rugby players in the Canberra competition.
Owls coach Sam Rolfe, who is a former Brumbies team manager, said the club would welcome Pocock with open arms.

"It's David Pocock. He's a world-class player and he'd come straight into the team," Rolfe said.
"He's been around the club for years now and comes down to help out as much as he could at times.
"He's got so much experience and he'd just add confidence to everyone around him. We'd mix and match our team a bit, but we'd be more than happy to do that. It would be fantastic to have him."
There will be a heavy Brumbies flavour in the two Canberra premier division finals matches this weekend.
Brumbies players are exempt from needing to play a minimum number of games during the regular season to qualify for finals action, paving the way for Super Rugby showdowns.
Alaalatoa has missed the past two Wallabies Tests with a foot injury and hasn't played since the Brumbies were knocked out of the Super Rugby play-offs, meaning he could be keen to get game time before the Bledisloe Cup next week.
Banks will also be keen to play as much as possible to impress Cheika after he was overlooked for Test selection last week.
Pocock has played just three matches since November and retired from Brumbies duties early to focus on getting fit for the World Cup.
Another World Cup hopeful, Pete Samu, was considering going to Melbourne to get game time after making his return from injury.
Samu's Canberra club, Easts, failed to make the finals, leaving the back-rower and Toni Pulu searching for somewhere to play to enhance their World Cup selection chances.
Samu tore his hamstring in June but starred in a 60-minute performance for Easts last weekend.
"I felt good. I didn't want to rush back because I know hamstrings are tough to come back from," Samu said.
"If I've got to play club rugby, I wouldn't mind going back to Melbourne for a run.
"I've got to do what I can to try to force my way back in. The World Cup is the main goal, I'll do everything I can to put my best foot forward."
