More than 450 of the best-bred - and cutest - creatures will be presented for judging for the show at Exhibition Park in Canberra over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 4pm.
The Australian Alpaca Association says it is the first time it has actively encouraged members of the public to come and see the show and appreciate the versatility of the animal, whose fibre, meat and companionship are all sought after.
Camels will also be there.
AAA chief executive Amanda Olthof said the association wanted the public to come and see the show.
As an enticement, between 10am and noon and 2pm and 4pm, there would be free alpaca sausage rolls, free bottles of water and free camel rides on offer. There will also be a selfie station where you can take a selfie with an alpaca.
AAA preside Ian Frith said it had been many years since the show had been in Canberra.
"We plan to have the best of the best animals exhibited, as well as a fleece show that will shine a spotlight on the superb quality of Australian fleece," he said.
