Canberra Raiders rookie Bailey Simonsson has shrugged off talk surrounding Cameron Smith's so-called wingnut tackle.
His only focus is on helping the Green Machine towards their goal of a home preliminary final.
Simonsson unwittingly found himself at the centre of a storm after Melbourne captain Smith was accused of attacking the 21-year-old's ears when the teams met four weeks ago.
Smith came out earlier this week slamming the claims and said he didn't go anywhere near Simonsson's ears.
The Raiders back and his ears don't remember the incident.
Simonsson was named in the No.14 jersey to fill the utility role on the bench - a role he's filled a few times already this season.
He's played on both wings and also at fullback in his debut season, where he's played 18 NRL games after starting the pre-season on a train-and-trial deal.
Now he's a more-than-handy back-up in multiple positions and has seven tries to his name.
"It's nothing. I'll just be focussing on my job, that's about it really," Simonsson said.
"I don't even remember it happening so I don't really know to be honest."
While it's his maiden NRL season, it's not his first year at the elite level.
He played for the All Blacks Sevens before joining the Green Machine late last year.
It's a similar path to his father Paul, who played for the All Blacks and also for the North Sydney Bears back in the 90s.
But the NRL finals is a different beast and Simonsson was unsure what to expect.
He was excited about playing finals in his maiden season, when he simply "hoped" to make his debut.
"In terms of finals, nothing [I've done] will help me with what to expect because it's my first NRL season, my first NRL finals campaign coming up so it's all new to me and I'm just taking it in my stride," he said.
"Having played footy at a higher level before it's helped me in terms of dealing with crowds, but I don't think I'll know what to expect - which is exciting at the same time.
"I'll just go in and take it as it comes."
