A 17-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to the murder of Queanbeyan service station worker Zeeshan Akbar, just moments before his trial was due to begin.
The teenager and his 19-year-old co-accused, who both cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in the NSW Supreme Court on Wednesday charged with murdering Mr Akbar, a 29-year-old Caltex employee, in April 2017.
They were aged 15 and 16 at the time of the murder.
The 17-year-old also pleaded guilty to the aggravated taking of a motor vehicle while a person was inside.
He only spoke twice in court to say "guilty" when asked how he wished to plead to the charges.
As he was led away, a woman in the public gallery sobbed and called out to him.
He will next face court for a sentencing hearing on October 31.
The judge-alone trial of the boy's 19-year-old co-accused is due to begin on Monday.
The teenager is also accused of murder and vehicle theft and will face charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and robbery with an offensive weapon causing grievous bodily harm.
