The ACT Legislative Assembly on Wednesday afternoon gave the green light to Canberrans cultivating and possessing small amounts of marijuana.
It look less than an hour for Twitter to light up with suggestions for how Canberra should embrace its reclaimed status as the Capital of Ganga.
At 5.14pm on Wednesday, Radio National reporter Matt Bevan started the hashstorm with some classic suggestions:
"ACT Cannabis brand name brainstorm, I'll start:
- Gungahlin Ganja
- Woooooahden Cannabis Company
- Canberra Bubble (tea)
- High Court Highs"
That unleashed a cavalcade of cannabis funnies, including renaming some Canberra suburbs and icons:
"Kingstoned, Warraganga, Narrabongdah."
"Mull-igan's Flat."
"Lake Burley Spliffin' "
"Downer Highs, Spiffwick, THE (The Hill Capital)"
"Parlimunted"
"Questacon"
"Federal High-way"
"Black Muntain."
Other suggestions for Canberra weed included "ScoMo Skunk", "Joint Sitting", "Old Parliament Hash".
Some thought the news should just see a return of the Sky Whale.
The new laws won't be in place until January 31, 2020.
They allow adults to possess up to 50 grams of dried cannabis or 150 grams of wet (or fresh) cannabis. Adults can also grow two plants at their place of residence. Each house can have a maximum of four plants.
