The scores were locked four-all. Sakiyo Asano had made three amazing saves in the shootout, but Canberra's first win of the Hockey One season was all down to Peris.
Pressure much? The Olympian simply thought "no worries."
"As I walked out [my teammates] said, 'if you get this, we win.' But I don't really feel the pressure, I love that stuff," Peris said.
"I knew she was going to dive so I waited an extra second and then just pushed it in. It was great to get the win today."
Peris' goal secured the Canberra Chill their first victory of the inaugural Hockey One season, beating Brisbane Blaze 2(3) to 2(2) at Lyneham Hockey Centre on Sunday.

The opening half see-sawed as neither team managed to find the back of the net but Brisbane's Rosie Malone broke the scoring drought with three minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Hockeyroo flicked the ball into the top left-corner from the ground, and then scored the conversion to give the visitors a 2-nil lead.
But Canberra came back firing in the fourth quarter as Kalindi Commerford and Beckie Middleton set the tone with two close attempts in the opening minutes.
Canberra continued to control the final term and Naomi Evans took advantage of the relentless pressure to equalise the score.
The 27-year-old received the ball from Middleton and struck it straight past Brisbane goalkeeper Hannah Astbury, who she beat a second time with a conversion.
"It was a tight contest but we stayed calm because we could feel it coming and had to be patient," Evans said.
"It's always nice to get on the scoreboard but I honestly didn't have to do much, she pretty much put it on my stick for me."
The match went into a penalty shootout with the scores locked 2-all at full-time, as per the new competition rules.
The teams scored two goals apiece but Peris came through to seal the match for the visiting side.
"Brisbane hold a big standard so I'm proud of how we handled today and our win," Peris said.
"They have a few Hockeyroos and former Australian players so it proves when you show up on the day, anyone can win. It's about hard work and Evans' goals were incredible.
"Hockey is about those incredible moments and executing them when the time arrives."
Meanwhile in the men's division, Brisbane defeated the Canberra Chill 4-1.
