Either way, the 19-year-old has received a massive Olympic boost after she was named in the Matildas 20-woman squad on Wednesday.
Roestbakken is set to join a European club, believed to be in Norway, at the end of the W-League campaign.
With finals out of reach for Canberra United, that happens following their clash against Brisbane Roar in Brisbane on Sunday.
Then Roestbakken will join the European exodus of Matildas, along with Sam Kerr (Chelsea) and Hayley Raso (Everton).
Her United co-captain Nikola Orgill has joined Norwegian club Kolbotn for the upcoming Toppserien season, which starts in March.
Roestbakken hadn't considered that the Roar game could be her last for United, but admitted that could be the case.
She's spent the past four W-League seasons with her hometown club, during which time she made her Matildas debut.
"At the moment I was planning on coming back to the W-League, but when you go over there anything can happen," Roestbakken said.
"So I'm a bit unsure what will happen, but at the time being I am planning on coming back.
"We'll see because there is that possibility that I might look to stay in Europe.
"It doesn't really feel like [it's my last game]. I haven't really thought about it like that, but it could be yeah."

Roestbakken has just returned from Matildas camp, having played two full games in their recent Olympic qualifier wins over Thailand and Chinese Taipei.
She was named in Ante Milicic's squad for their final qualifier - a home-and-away clash against Vietnam in two weeks.
They'll play in Newcastle on March 6 and then travel to Vietnam for the second leg on March 11.
The winner will book a spot at the Olympic Games in Tokyo later in the year.
Roestbakken is desperate to book herself a trip to Japan.
She said competition for spots would continue to heat up as the year progresses, but the Matildas also have games locked in against world champions USA and Canada for her to stake her claim.
"It's getting close to the Olympics and the numbers will get shorter and shorter each time," Roestbakken said.
"Two more people will get cut come Olympics time.
"Every little tournament I go into is an extra taste and it's a step closer towards it.
"I'm definitely getting hungry and I definitely want to go there so I'm going to try to put my best foot forward to go there.
"And I'm going to give it my all because that's ultimately my goal."
While Roestbakken's pushing to make her Olympic debut, her United teammate Rachael Goldstein is hoping to add to her W-League debut on the weekend.
The Canberran came off the bench in the 86th minute of United's 3-1 victory over Adelaide United on Sunday.
Goldstein was over the moon about her debut and has now set her sights on adding to that in the coming years.
The 24-year-old played for Canberra FC in the ACT women's premier league, having started out playing against the boys.
She was already buzzing from her birthday last week when United coach Heather Garriock told her she was going to play.
"This season was my step-up season and just to get that moment on the field makes me go, 'I want more of that'," Goldstein said.
"During the off-season I'll definitely focus so that next year I can definitely get more game time. That's my plan.
"It's a good confidence boost to then know there's that level that I can get to. Now the next step is to get game time and even starting a few games."
