Marr, the inaugural general manager of ACT Sport, passed away on May 6 in Tuncurry, aged 92.

He was a renowned sports administrator and was widely credited for driving the early development of ACT Sport, helping establish its integrity among stakeholders and members alike.

Described as the "godfather" of sport in Canberra, tributes flowed on social media from those who were part of his journey in Canberra.

The Queanbeyan Tigers foundly remember Marr for his "wonderful mateship and spontaneous storytelling" as well as "his extraordinary vision and selfless determination" for ACT sport.

Marr was the club's chairman and served on its board of directors, in addition to managing the Queanbeyan first grade side in 1984.

He was also involved with Manuka Football Club and was the team manager of the ACT representative side for more than a decade.

Marr was inducted into the ACT Sport Hall of Fame as an associate member for his administrative contribution to Canberra sport in 2014, 19 years after he helped establish the initiative.

His name is honoured through the Harry Marr Award, which was given to the best "home grown talent" competing on the national or international stage.

Canberra-born basketballer Patty Mills, who plays for the San Antonio Spurs, was its first and only recipient in 2014.
