The works will be carried out between 6am and 4pm weekdays and 7am to 4pm Saturdays for about three months, "with all works to be completed before the end of the year (weather permitting)".
Work began from the northbound inside lane between Macarthur Avenue and Mouat Street on Monday.
Just one lane will be open between 6am and 3pm and two lanes will be open after 3pm.
During work hours, Murdoch Street will be closed in both directions between Goodwin Street and Northbourne Avenue.
Access will be provided to residents on this street and construction vehicles only.
The work includes the removal of the existing road pavement, repairs to kerbing and stormwater drains, placement of new road pavement and line marking.
A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place throughout these works and motorists are advised to take an alternate route.
Pedestrians and cyclists are asked to please follow the instructions of traffic controllers and signage when crossing Northbourne Avenue.
