Canberra United splashed their way back into the W-League's top four with a 1-0 win over the Newcastle Jets on Saturday night.
A Michelle Heyman flourish proved the difference as United ended a 454-day drought away from home, in what was a vital three points on the road to finals.
Vicki Linton's outfit now sit third on the ladder, although Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United are yet to play this round.
Friday's clash with the Sky Blues at Viking Park likely looms as a must-win with only three separating second and fifth.
Defender Kendall Fletcher said the result was huge to United's finals bid, although the skipper would have liked them to be more clinical in terms of scoring.

"That was our season right there. If we didn't get a result there was still a chance but it depended on other teams, it's still in our control now," Fletcher said.
"That's what we want. We got the result we needed but it wasn't the performance we could have had.
"I think we still struggled to put some balls in the back of the net away from home, but as with this season we found a way to win.
"That's a phenomenal quality to have in a team but I'd still love for us to just continue to press a little bit more in getting goals away from home. But we got the one we needed tonight for sure."
The match between Victory and Sydney at Kogarah's Jubilee Stadium was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, with it to be rescheduled to a later date.
APL officials also inspected Newcastle's No.2 Sportsground mid-afternoon and deemed it playable despite the wet conditions.
"To be honest, it was phenomenal. Just considering how much rain there was and even in the end when there was a bit of a downpour, the field held up well," Fletcher said.
"It didn't affect play at all, so credit to Newcastle and the field staff. It was quality."
The visitors started strongly and took the lead in the 22nd minute via Heyman, who found the end of a beautiful through-ball from Grace Maher to slot into goal.
It later proved to be the decider, although Heyman could have had another just seven minutes later when she struck the ball over the cross bar on a left turn.
It marked the perfect way for the former Matilda to celebrate her 100th match for United, with Heyman becoming the third centurion in the club's history.
"That's huge for her. She's been breaking records left, right and centre this season but I know it means a lot to her to do it in green," Fletcher said.
"It means a lot to each and every one of us to be alongside her tonight, she's a phenomenal human being and a great soccer player."
Wingers Paige Satchell and Nicki Flannery caused Newcastle headaches as they switched flanks regularly, with their rapid runs and crosses into the box keeping the defence under relentless pressure.
The hosts survived an early scare from the dynamic duo when Flannery flew down the right and sent a perfectly-placed cross into the goal's mouth for Satchell.
But Newcastle goalkeeper Claire Coelho stood tall and blocked the Kiwi's strike, denying Canberra a chance to claim a 13th minute lead.
Canberra missed another opportunity in their final corner before the half-time break, with a dangerous header from Heyman hitting the posts.
Flannery had the first chance to double Canberra's lead in the second half, when she broke through her former team's defence on the counter attack and sent a lethal strike towards goal - only for Coelho to produce another crucial save.
And the Jets goalkeeper did so again in the 67th minute, tipping a Flannery flick over the cross bar to keep United's lead narrow.
United's backline kept Newcastle quiet, keeping them to just six attempts on goal to the visitor's 25.
Emma Ilijoski came off gingerly after copping an accidental contact to the head by Jets's Lauren Allan, halting the match for a few minutes. She returned later in the match.
