On Saturday, the Canberra Fire Museum (4 Empire Circuit, Forrest), which features vehicles from every decade of Canberra's firefighting history, is open 10am to 2pm.
The Canberra Railway Museum at 2 Geijera Place, Kingston is open Saturday and Sunday 10am to 3pm. Walk through vintage sleeping cars and enter the footplate of Locomotive 1210 that pulled the first train into Canberra.
Enjoy stepping back in time at the Googong Heritage Day on Sunday from 10am to 2pm, off the London Bridge Road. Bring a picnic or use the BBQ facilities.
Reimagine the Age of Steam at the Goulburn Historic Waterworks, off Fitzroy Street, Goulburn, on Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
Witness two operational 1800s stationary steam engines housed in the historic Waterworks Pumphouse. There will also be live model engine display on the banks of the picturesque Wollondilly River which offers a place to relax and have a picnic or BBQ while the kids enjoy the playground.
The Rock Valley Picnic is on Sunday from 10am to 2pm in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Paddys River Road.
Bring a picnic and reimagine rural life of the old days with stories and recollections by locals, including the Tidbinbilla Pioneers. There will be a working model eucalypt distillery, kid's craft, old-style games, precinct tours, music and poetry.
