The Gowrie resident said the draw was a big surprise as he "never wins anything".
The 75-year-old will take wife Lee on a driving trip up to central west of NSW, visiting Orange, Young and Bathurst.
The pair met 53 years ago while they were both working at the National Library of Australia, and have been subscribers to The Canberra Times for over three decades.
Mr Beazer said the paper had changed drastically over that time, moving from broadsheet to tabloid and shifting from a focus on international to local news.
"You get a broader view from the paper," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"[I] still prefer a newspaper and will never read it online.
"[I like] the tactile nature of it, turning a page, and after you can recycle it and use it in the garden. There is more than enough time spent in front of screens. Also, you can see most of it at once, and choose what you want to read."
Fellow Canberra Times reader and aged care worker Joan Mae Antig said winning the fuel was "good karma" to rebalance her life, after becoming one of 1259 people caught by the new speed cameras in Civic.
"I was really happy because a day before that, I had received this [Civic traffic] infringement ticket. I was really bummed," she said.
"I think it was good karma, because I had a ticket the day before and then I won the next day, so it was a good balance and so I was really, really happy about it."
Ms Antig said she entered the competition twice after encouragement from staff at work.
"Everybody was doing it, my morning staff would just give me the paper in front of my desk. That was really fortunate," she laughed.
Ms Antig said she wanted to share the fuel winnings with her work team as a thank you for encouraging her to enter, and for their hard work.
"I just really want to thank you guys for this. I mean, I'm really, really happy," Ms Antig said.
"I never win anything."
She also said she wants to take a trip to Melbourne and up the coast once Covid restrictions ease, adding the free fuel would be a great help in getting there.
