Up at the National Arboretum on Sunday for an invigorating walk, every turn on the path revealed another group of picnickers enjoying the afternoon sun. Some didn't even bother moving far from the car. One group was almost eating on the roadside.
But good luck to them and every other soul seeking a way to catch up with friends and enjoy some spring sunshine.
Here's a few of the best options for picnics and a couple of other super food deals for the week.
Assembly
Did someone say rose? Try this pack with a selection of cheeses, meats, antipasto and housemade honeycomb plus a bottle of Simon Gilbert rose. $70 with the optional add-on of a Fireball for $20.
Amici Bar
Everything on the menu here looks fabulous but try this antipasto box full of olives, artichokes, heirloom tomatoes, dolmade, dips and pate with bread and grissini. Add in anything you want really, from alcoholic drinks to something sweet, DIY cannoli anyone. From $35.
Paranormal Wines
Meats, cheese, olives, a Sonoma baguette and some Pepe Saya butter. Throw in a bottle of wine from the Paranormal range and you're set. $60.
Corella Bar and Restaurant
Is it being greedy if you order both the grazing pack and throw in some freshly shucked appellation oysters? The grazing pack contains a selection of cheese, some pork terrine, pickled walnuts and some housemade honeycomb with either the choice of a Mada rose or two native negronis. Check out the sandwich menu too.
Marion's on the Shore
Molto Italian
Grab the picnic pack for $30, full of antipasto, or lash out and grab some pizzas and settle in for the allotted two hours. Fun cocktail packs available too from $12.
MEALS FOR GOOD
Menulog has launched its Meal 4 Good program where, for every meal ordered from a "local legend" on the last Friday of the month, the company will donate the cost of a meal to Ozharvest. So whether it's burgers or bhn m, pizza or paella, your Friday food order can go towards helping someone in need.
Fifty-nine restaurants have legend status in Canberra. From Bonner Turkish Kebab to Little Theo's Takeaway in Kambah, to Weston's Meating Room. For the full list head to menulog.com.au
The Menulog Meal 4 Good initiative begins on Friday September 24, and runs on the last Friday of every month until August 2022 or until targeted donations are reached. Customers simply order their meals on the selected days from a listed Local Legend restaurant and a meal will be donated to OzHarvest.
One last tour
We love it that Lazy Su is giving John Farnham a run for his money in the "final tour" stakes. But with lockdown extensions and such a hungry fanbase, this Braddon restaurant is heading to the suburbs again. Order from Woden/Tuggeranong for delivery on September 21 and October 3, out to Queanbeyan/Googong on September 22 and October 5, Gungaglin on September 26 and October 6, Molonglo/Weston Creek on September 28 and October 10, and Belconnen on September 29 and October 12. Order during these dates and you'll go in the running for a $200 instore voucher. There's one up for grabs in every area.
The Italian Place
We love this restaurant for its authentic homey feel and now you can try to replicate some part of that at home. Their CooKITs, are a rotating selection of goods and accompanying recipes put together by the team, each highlighting their favourite recipes from home. You get the well-guarded recipe and everything you need to make it happen. There's even a bottle of wine matched to the recipe by sommmelier Maria Navarrete. $55.
Or lash out on a breakfast kit. One of the best things about travelling Italy is waking up to a proper italian breakfast. Not the continental breakfast from the hotel but the one from the family run Caffe down the lane. Be transported with a selection of Italian classics including Bauli Vanilla Croissants, Cannolificio Mongibello, Mulino Bianco Biscottate Dorate, Schwartau Extra Apricot, Caffe Moreno and two cups of Bialetti Moka Express. $75.
