And Canberra trainer Matthew Dale's hoping Man Of Peace can prove his credentials for the $1.3 million race.

Man Of Peace is the $3.70 favourite for The Panorama (1300 metres) at Bathurst on Sunday - a race that's being touted as an audition for The Kosciuszko (1200m) at Randwick on October 16.

There's just two spot up for grabs in the field of 14, which already includes fellow Canberra horse Handle The Truth and Island Bay Boy, trained by Queanbeyan's Tony Sergi.

Dale felt that's why Racing NSW had put the $80,000 Panorama on three weeks out from The Kosciuszko - as a chance for horses to prove themselves.

The nine-year-old gelding will carry 63 kilograms and while that sounds - and is - a lot, Dale felt his charge had come out well in the weights compared with the other horses in the field.

Dale was happy with how the son of Zariz was going in a build-up that included the group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) last start.

"It's a really strong, open class race with plenty of pressure on paper and the winner of that race would be very much deserved of a spot in The Kosciuszko," he said.

"A number of the horses [picked] haven't even won Highways yet ... well you'd need to be easily able to win Highway races to win [Sunday].

"So I think it is the perfect race to audition for one of the last couple of slots in The Kosciuszko."

Dale's still unsure who will ride Man Of Peace after his initial jockey got suspended.

He'll wait until he knows the final field before making a call.

"I'm still actually undecided until [Sunday] morning who will ride because of scratchings, and jockeys that are on emergencies and whether they get runs," Dale said.

"I won't know until 7.30 [Sunday] morning who rides."
