The projects include the intersection on Limestone Avenue and Euree Street, opposite Campbell High School, and the Australian War Memorial, where traffic signals will be installed and an existing pedestrian crossing removed.

The intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and Brierly Street in Weston will also receive new traffic signals and have the speed limit reduced to 60km/h.

Right turns will be banned on Isabella Drive and Benham Street in Chisholm, except for emergency vehicles, and a new right-turn only lane with a signal will be marked for the intersection of Phillip Avenue and Windeyer Street in Downer.

The federal government's black spot program has been reducing deaths and sparing families from the impact of tragedies, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said.

The new projects will "deliver much-needed safety upgrades to some of the most dangerous sections of our roads, making them safer and keeping commuters and freight moving," he said.

Zed Seselja, an ACT senator and chair of the ACT black spot consultative panel, said the government had funnelled $14.5 million towards black-spot projects in high-priority locations across Canberra, "saving lives and ensuring Canberrans can get home sooner and safer".

"The high-priority locations we are funding have seen a total of 25 crashes causing injuries recorded over the past five years," he said.

The Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics found that black-spot projects reduced the number of crashes causing death and injury by 30 per cent on average, he noted.

"These projects build on more than $2.2 billion invested in infrastructure across the ACT in the last few years - the largest federal investment in the ACT since self-government," he said.
