‘The same thing keeps happening and nothing changes’
This was such a sad story to wake up to yesterday, that a dog had attacked two of Canberra's therapy alpacas, and that one of them, Mimosa, had to be put down.
"He slept by the gate last night hoping she'd come home," owner Nils Lantzke said of his surviving alpaca Hercules.
Mr Lantzke is devastated, exhausted, overwhelmed by the loss and lifted by the response from the community. But, ultimately, sceptical anything will change in Canberra to prevent ongoing dog attacks.

'All but powerless': Government concedes it can't stop delivery drones
ACT government ministers and bureaucrats have admitted there's actually not much they can do when it comes to regulating household delivery drone services.
In evidence given to a Legislative Assembly inquiry looking into the Project Wing drone delivery trial, Attorney General Gordon Ramsay said the government had "very limited" ability to mitigate the disturbance.
"The simple reality is that we have very limited space in which the ACT government has the capacity to move into the regulation of drones," Mr Ramsay told the inquiry.
"The Australian government has exclusive power to regulate safety in terms of safety and in terms drone noise."

Recipients shine at the 2019 Canberra Gold Awards
Many things get better with age, including the Canberran individuals and groups recognised at the Canberra Gold Awards on Wednesday.
Among the groups recognised were the Woden Valley Youth Choir, which started in 1969, and the YWCA Canberra, which has been going for 90 years.
The awards recognise people or community groups that have been here for 50 years or more.
