Contemplate this. Is a soft drink good with your favourite pie? Not always, sometimes it's a little sickly. Is vino too upscale for most pizzas? Well for me it is, unless it's a $6 Aldi variety, in which case, you do you.
The right beer paired with a sumptuous pizza can be a palate cleanser, a sweet friend to a salty slice and hoppy complement to melted cheese.

East Pizza's truffle funghi pizza is an earthy exploration. The dish features mushrooms from Murrumbateman and black truffles from Braidwood, plus milky mozzarella and aromatic garlic oil.
The rich, earthy flavours certainly make for a winter dish, but an icy brew transforms that. The citrus hop notes and the full-bodied caramel malt of the Evil Eye Red IPA soften the umami flavours of the pizza, adding refreshment to each bite.

Sometimes the star quality of a pizza-beer duo comes down to the crust, obviously. Italian & Sons' dough-making process is a marathon, not a sprint. It's left to rise for 48 hours so it takes on bread-like textures and flavours, which in turn reflects similar notes to the lightly-hopped Crankshaft IPA.
While the crust is the soul of the pizza, the slight bitterness of the tomato sauce and the charcoal flavours of the smoked ricotta give body to the dish.

The garlic of the pan-fried king prawns, sea scallops and calamari with the tangy hops and earthy bitterness of Capital Coast Ale makes for a good starter kit for a long summer evening.
