But the ACT government hopes footy fever is still alive and well in the capital.
For the first time it is showing the AFL grand final on the big screen in Civic Square, out the front of Canberra Theatre Centre.
The fake grass will be rolled out and officials will be crossing their fingers the weather improves, for a family day out.
As well as all the action from the MCG, there will be a sausage sizzle, entertainment and free junior inflatables for the kids.
Take your own deck chairs. Alcohol will be for sale, but BYO is not permitted.
The fun kicks off at midday on Saturday.
