The Canberra Hospital shooting that sparked major concerns about security also caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the emergency department.

In July, a man charged with serious traffic offences was receiving treatment under police guard when he allegedly wrestled a gun off a police officer and shot it a number of times.
Witnesses said the shots narrowly missed two staff and the accused was repeatedly Tasered before he dropped the gun.
The incident also raised serious questions about security at Canberra Hospital, after witnesses recalled a police officer ordering a wardsperson responding to the code black to pick up the dropped gun.
In response to questions on notice from the ACT Opposition, ACT Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris said the health directorate did not have a policy that prevented police officers bringing weapons into the emergency department.
She said both ACT Health and ACT Policing were reviewing the incident, with a joint debrief planned.
Asked if the results of the review would be released publicly, Ms Fitzharris said: "This will be considered. The recommendations from Canberra Hospital and Health Services internal review would be released. ACT Health is unable to comment on the police review."
In the aftermath of the shooting, Health Services Union secretary Gerard Hayes wrote to hospital chief Chris Bone asking an urgent review of workplace health and safety policies in the emergency department.
An emergency department worker, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Canberra Times at the time code blacks were an almost daily occurrence at the hospital, with wardstaff, nurses and cleaners forced to step in to contain the situation.
The incident also caused minor damage to the emergency department, with parts of the ward sealed off as a crime scene.
Ms Fitzharris said the shooting damaged an air-conditioning unit which required replacement along with minor damage to flooring and walls.
Due to the water leakage from the impacted air-conditioning unit there was also damage to lighting, power cabling and outlets, flooring and ceiling tiles, she said.
"All repairs are complete excluding the floor vinyl repairs. The cost of repairs is approximately $22,000," Ms Fitzharris said.
"There was minimal disruption to services whilst the works were carried out. A number of beds in the section of the emergency department where the incident took place were closed for a period of time whilst the remediation work was completed."
