It's parliament's third sitting week back after the holiday break and today, there's a lot of news stemming from the government. You might have missed Chief Minister Andrew Barr's announcement last night that pill testing will be trialled for a second time at Canberra's Groovin the Moo festival in April. Otherwise, our reporters have honed in on everything else policy, from ice rinks to data hacks.

Here's what is making news today.

Have you been dreaming of donning your skates in a new ice rink, ever since the chief minister promised one for the national capital back in 2016? You might be in luck!

In its mid-year budget review, the government has listed a new ice rink under "more jobs for our growing city".

It has not disclosed how much money it was willing to front for the rink but it's the first confirmation we've seen that the government is actually budgeting for it, the ACT Ice Sports Federation said.

The territory has the highest number of players per rink in almost all Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries.

Finbar O'Mallon has the story.

The NSW government has doubled its rebate for children playing organised sport to $200 per year. But Canberra has again missed out, with no ACT government programs in place to help families in need of support.

Nine sports in Canberra are working with "every chance to play" - a charity that targets sponsors to help make playing sport more affordable for children in the capital - to help breach the gap.

But is the NSW initiative a better option? Eamonn Tiernan investigates.

The ACT government's online directorate was hacked in November last year and the private details of more than a dozen public servants were stolen.

But the attack was only identified by the Australian Cyber Security Centre it came across a third party trying to sell the government's internal directory database to online buyers four days later.

Daniel Burdon looks at why the breach happened in the first place and what the territory government is doing to stop further attacks on data.

Residents of Woden Valley are concerned about community planning after the government's budget review indicated the former Canberra Institute of Technology building would be sold off, at least in part, to developers.

The government had previously suggested the site would be used for community facilities - and there's still no word on where the promised community centre will be.

I spoke with local community council president Fiona Carrick about what residents would like to see for the future of the valley.
