Electrical Trades Union assistant secretary Neville Betts said a further reduction in the workforce would potentially reduce the reliability of the network and undermine responses to storms or natural disasters.
Mr Betts said he would seek meetings early this week with ActewAGL chief executive Michael Costello and shareholder ministers, Chief Minister Andrew Barr and his deputy Simon Corbell.
Mr Costello has said the impact of a more than one-third cut in operating allowance would mean more, and longer, blackouts and brownouts, with details on the numbers of job cuts hoped to be released to staff by the end of this week. Cuts of the up to 200 jobs envisaged in March would not be needed, he said.
The company has about 800 staff across its retail and distribution businesses.
