She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), a rare form of cancer, when she was three years old and can now consider herself cured after five years in remission.

To mark the milestone, she wanted to give hope to other children living with cancer and raise money during Children's Cancer Awareness Month.

So while her classmates spend their afternoons playing with friends or watching their favourite TV shows, eight-year-old Annabelle will be lacing up her walking shoes.

"I want other kids to know I used to have cancer, I want them to know that I'm a survivor and I hope they are too," she said.

"I wanted to help other kids so they don't die.

"They need to stay calm because even though they have a rough life ahead of them they'll still always be loved."

Annabelle said being cured of cancer meant regular hospital trips and medical tests were now a thing of the past for her.

"It's really tough having cancer because sometimes it hurts and you're in hospital and you feel very lonely," she said.

Annabelle's father David was initially sceptical when she suggested the daily trek, but said she had shown nothing but determination.

Their whole family was torn apart when Annabelle was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and she had to go to Sydney for treatment.

They weren't sure sure if she was going to survive or not.

David said while other cancers had campaigns like Movember and Pink Ribbon Day to raise money for research, children's cancer did not get the same publicity.

"She has had more than one friend with cancer and friends with cancer who have not survived," he said.

"Things like that keep us going.

"We're pretty proud of Annabelle after everything she's been through."

Annabelle has so far raised $2300 for The Kids' Cancer Project, and hopes to raise more money and awareness throughout the rest of the month.
