A parliamentary committee has poured cold water on a proposal to ban companies from making political donations in Queensland.

Earlier this year, Greens MP Michael Berkman introduced a private member's bill to ban all political donations from businesses to state and local government politicians, candidates and parties.
It would exclude charities and employee or employer organisations.
However, the Economics and Governance Committee - which has three Labor members and three LNP members - has recommended the bill not be passed.
The committee found aspects of the proposed laws may affect people's freedom to participate in the political process, which have been articulated in findings by the High Court.
There are no caps on donations or election spending in Queensland.
The Crime and Corruption Commission did not support the bill.
Commissioner Alan MacSporran said it was his personal view that in an ideal world all donations would be banned.
"But the High Court has said, and the law is, that there needs to be an evidence-based response which is proportional to the threat identified," he said.
The committee was concerned a ban on political donations by corporate donors would give rise to third-parties running independent campaigns, as was prevalent in the US.
Crime and Corruption Commission senior executive officer Paul Alsbury said corporations would find ways to get their agenda inserted into the public debate.
"If corporations cannot get their message to political parties and get their messages out through political parties then they are going to find another medium to do it and they will be more direct in relation to that," he said.
Mr Berkman said the community overwhelmingly supported reform to get big money out of politics.
"People feel like Labor and the LNP are just not listening to them, and it's not hard to see why," he said.
"This is just more evidence that Labor and the LNP are completely wedded to their corporate donors."
Earlier this year, the Palaszczuk government passed laws that banned property developers from donating at a local and state government level.
The Crime and Corruption Commission, however, said extending the ban to state politicians departed "significantly" from its recommendations following an extensive investigation into local government, known as Operation Belcarra.
