The Archibald Prize finalist and her sons accused of murdering the family matriarch said she deserved to have her ashes thrown in the bin, secret police recordings played to the jury revealed.

Hours of recorded material continued being played in the Beowulf murder trial on Wednesday, with the family expressing disdain for the dead matriarch.
Melissa Beowulf, 61, and her sons Thorsten, 33, and Bjorn Beowulf, 31, are accused of murdering their mother-in-law and grandmother Katherine Panin, 82.
They have pleaded not guilty.
The jury have already listened to hours of recordings from the Beowulf's bugged phones and home which demonstrated the family's frustrations with the police investigation into Mrs Panin's death.
The recordings also showed the level of family in-fighting between Mrs Beowulf and her sons and Dianne McGowan, the second partner of Mrs Panin's son and Melissa's husband, Thorhammer Beowulf.
In a conversation between Melissa Beowulf and one of her sons - it was not clear from the recording which son was speaking - the son says they need to dispose of Mrs Panin's ashes.
"We've got to get rid of Katherine's ashes," he said.
"Throw them in the f---ing bin.
"She'll have her wish, it's what she deserves."
To which Mrs Beowulf responded: "It is what she deserves."
In another conversation the mother and son can be heard saying they wanted Dr McGowan and her son Niels Beowulf-McGowan out of their lives.
"We've already got rid of Katherine," the son said.
"We've got rid of Dianne and Niels... almost."
At one point they discuss Mrs Panin's frailties, saying she was 82 years old and prone to tripping over.
"It's a miracle she hadn't bumped herself off earlier," the son said.
Throughout the recorded conversations, Mrs Beowulf and her sons can be heard criticising the police investigation into the death of Mrs Panin.
They express frustration at being questioned months after Mrs Panin's death and say there is no evidence they could uncover that would point to Mrs Beowulf and her sons having killed her.
One son blamed the investigation continuing on Dr McGowan making up allegations.
"The police, even the AFP, aren't exactly the brains trust," one of the sons can be heard saying.
Mrs Beowulf also believed Dr McGowan was accusing her and her sons of murder.
"She's the one that had something to gain, or thought she did, by framing me," Mrs Beowulf said.
And at another time one of the sons said, "I just want to punch Dianne in the neck".
After the recordings were played, a police officer witness told the court in response to questions from the prosecutor that although the accused were concerned Dr McGowan was influencing the police investigation, she was not.
The prosecution case hinges on the fact Mrs Beowulf and her sons had fallen into financial distress and the prospect of not receiving all of the proceeds from Mrs Panin selling a Woollahra property drove them to murder.
The jury heard at an earlier appearance that the family would sell properties and Mrs Panin's jewellery to fund their lifestyles.
During one recording Mrs Beowulf says at least she can make money out of the trial.
"The good thing is when I write a book, I'll make millions," Mrs Beowulf said.
To which her son responded, "Who has millions right now? Us. Who doesn't? Niels and Dianne."
In another conversation, one of the sons said Dr McGowan was "about to learn why you don't f--- with a Beowulf, because we're very petty and will get our revenge".
